Dermal Filler & Lip Filler Treatments

Reinvigorating Your Skin

Dermal Filler & Lip Filler Treatment

Dermal fillers are the leading solution we use to smooth wrinkles and fine lines, reinvigorate skin and creating a youthful appearance. Fillers are injected directly beneath a line or fold to fill the depression it makes in the skin. This will smooth out the appearance of the wrinkle and diffuse light more softly.

I am trained and certified to carry out advanced Dermal Filler treatments using cannulas for contouring of facial areas such as jaw and cheeks.

Dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid. This is an important substance that skin naturally contains. Its key role is to maintain the plumpness and moisture that helps keep the skin surface smooth and lifted, but levels of HA decline with age.

Adding dermal filler will attract water into the area causing it to plump and soften, minimising lines.

What is Dermal Filler?

Dermal fillers are used for facial aesthetic treatments and are injected into the skin. They are designed to effectively reduce the appearance of unwanted wrinkles, contour and create volume, and to revitalise the skin. Dermal fillers are based on Hyaluronic acid which is a substance that naturally exists in your body.

Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule that exists naturally in almost all living organisms. It binds water and can act as a lubricant and shock absorber in movable parts of the body such as joints. It is also important for the transport of nutrients and in regulating water balance in skin.

Dermal fillers work by boosting the skin’s supply of hyaluronic acid, dermal fillers revitalise and add volume to the skin, instantly diminishing the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and giving a natural softer look. Dermal fillers are a soft injectable gel consisting of stabilised, non-animal hyaluronic acid. The gel is tissue-friendly and closely resembles the hyaluronic acid that exists naturally in the body. It is long-lasting but not permanent.

Dermal filler injections provide an easy way to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, smooth the skin and give a more youthful appearance. The result of a single treatment can be seen instantly and can last for around 6 to 9 months. Dermal filler injections can give a natural looking result that does not affect facial expression. As your face changes over time, dermal fillers allow you to control your looks subtly as you age.

Dermal fillers can be used to smooth away facial lines and wrinkles, create fuller lips and shape facial contours, such as cheeks and chin, and revitalise the skin.

Dermal fillers are manufactured, usually through fermentation and cross linking with proteins to produce a clear, sterile gel for injection into the skin. In the UK, there are over 160 brands on the market due in some part to weak regulation. Not all hyaluronic acids are the same, each brand has a range of ‘tissue tailored’ products designed for specific results. One size does not fit all. I only  use only tried and tested brands that are safe and reliable.

Does Dermal Filler Hurt?

When administered by a trained professional you should experience minimal discomfort. The dermal filler products that I use contain lidocaine, a local anaesthetic substance. When the numbing agent wears off in approximately 1 hours time, you can experience some mild discomfort so I would advise over the counter pain relief such as paracetamol.

The products I use, such as Juvederm, have undergone extensive testing to ensure the safety of the product. Hyaluronic acid , the main substance in dermal fillers, occur naturally in our body so work well with our own skin.

Areas that are more sensitive, like the lips mean you may feel more discomfort following the procedure but this can be easily managed with pain relief as mentioned. I would also recommend that we use a numbing cream which will take about 15 minutes to work.

Are Dermal Fillers and Lip Fillers Safe?

Yes, when administered by a qualified medical professional such as myself who is trained and insured to practise, this should offer you some reassurance. A medical consultation to ensure that the filler is correct for you and that I can meet your expectations will take place before treatment.

There are complications that can arise when treating with dermal fillers. It is therefore very important that the person injecting a dermal filler into your face has good knowledge of the anatomical structure of blood vessels of the face and knows how to avoid blocking a blood vessel, whilst avoiding one of the many facial nerves. It is also important that the practitioner knows what to do should something go wrong. My extensive medical training and experience ensures that you are in safe hands.

How Long Will the Dermal Filler Last?

Longevity does vary between products, and between individuals, but most will last between 6 months and 18 months. If you choose not to maintain the results with further treatment, your skin will return to its pre-treatment state over time.

Am I Suitable for Dermal and Lip Filler?

A detailed medical history will be taken  to ensure you have no conditions that might increase risk of unwanted side effects. Consultation is also important to discuss your expectations and whether or not this treatment is able to meet them.

Are There Any Side Effects of Dermal Fillers?

For the majority of people, there are no side effects at all. However, in some cases, there may be redness, swelling or tenderness around the treated area. Often this resolves within a few hours.

Occasionally lumps and bumps do occur as there may be some local inflammation, this should settle within a few days. I advise you not to massage the area yourself as this can move the dermal filler product. If you need any adjustments after the treatment, you’ll be invited back to the clinic.

Dermal Filler and Lip Filler Aftercare

The aftercare requirements for dermal fillers will vary depending on the area being treated. It is advised you not to apply creams or make-up for at least six hours after the treatment. It’s also best not to expose the area to extreme heat for at least a week. Apart from that, you will usually be able to return to work immediately, there is not usually any downtime and you should feel fully recovered after 48/72 hours.

In advance of your treatment, you’ll receive a thorough consultation to advise you on any other aftercare requirements for your particular procedure
