About Me

My Journey

My interest in health began when I opened my first business in 1999 at which point I had already started my first degree in biomedical sciences. During my studies I was torn between pursuing an academic career or becoming my own boss. Independence won and my venture into health foods and sports nutrition became established as a business. I branched out into holistic therapy planning to add therapy services into my growing business. I completed a course in Swedish holistic body massage and became a certified massage therapist.

In 2009 after an early mid-life crisis and feeling that I needed a change of direction I decided I wanted to pursue a medical career. I joined the ambulance service, graduating as a paramedic from Liverpool John Moores university. As you can imagine, my career as a paramedic was extremely varied, working as a frontline paramedic in emergency services seeing the most urgent and life-threatening cases, looking after people in dire need. After 6 years on the frontline I moved on to work for NHS 111.

After a few years working for 111 as a clinician I trained to become a trainer myself for NHS 111 Pathways. This gave me the opportunity to provide training for other clinicians such as nurses and paramedics. My thirst for further medical knowledge eventually led me back to university where I completed an intensive post graduate degree in Physician Associate studies at the University of Liverpool’s medical school.

A short explanation about physician associates: physician associates are medically trained, generalist healthcare professionals, trained in the medical model who work alongside doctors and provide medical care. They can diagnose, manage and treat many conditions. You are likely to find physician associates in general practice and specialising in many areas, even surgery.

I started my physician associate career at the very start of the pandemic, securing a job that involved helping set up a “hot hub”, working with the early suspected Covid cases. This meant that I was assessing suspected Covid patients working in full PPE, hard work in the summer months! Even with my prior training in emergency care it was a frightening time to be involved in such close quarters with an unknown and deadly virus that caused such havoc.

I have worked in general practice for the last 3 years seeing patients with all manner of general medical problems. It was here that I developed a special interest in women’s health, contraception and menopause which became my area of focus.

This new venture sees me focusing on menopause, its symptoms and how I can help women to manage this period of their life. Furthermore, I have diversified into aesthetics and am fully qualified and insured to provide such treatments.

In my spare time I am an advocate of Pilates. I practice regularly, finding that it helps with stress, improves posture and the flexibility of joints, especially the spine.  Exercise has always been central to my well-being.
